This Guide for Blades is for everyone. This guide is based off of personal experience in PvM and PvP. From Aibatts to Captain Asruas, I'll give you tips to make your blade a successful one. In this guide, I'll go over what to do if you're rich or poor.
Is This The Right Class For You? General Overview Of Blades
Blades are the primary 1v1 class in the game. If you want to grind fast and efficient, this is the class for you, no doubt. Do you like hitting insane amounts of damage? Do you like PvP? If yes, then this class is perfect for you. Average Blades rely on Critical Rate after level 95. People with more money at their disposal can use critical rate as early as level 1, through godly vagrant awakened gear. Starting your blade as a twink is highly recommended. Blades kick butt in Arena, and Guild Siege. After about 110, as a blade, you'll be able to kill almost anyone in the arena with a few hits, depending on how much money you've put into your character. Leveling after level 95 becomes a joke, because your damage spikes greatly, due to the level 105 -10reduced weapons.
Stats
Critical Rate is the most important stat for any blade; even more important than Additional Damage Of Critical Hits (ADOCH). ADOCH Becomes important for you once your critical rate is at least 80%, however it's always best to try and get 96% critical rate if you can.
Your Attitude
As you all may have heard before, blades can be one of the most expensive classes in the game, if not the most expensive. The main reason is that as a blade, you need two weapons whereas other classes need one. In addition to this, blades change their weapons frequently whereas other classes such as BP's can stick with a Guardian Knuckle (lv 60) through the entirety of the game. Another reason is that blades do ALOT Better with an Ultimate weapon. Since blades are 1v1, awakens and upgrade levels of weapons make a bigger difference in your 1v1 damage than they do in AoE (Area Of Effect, used to kill many enemies at once, generally 30-50 mobs per AoE) damage.
Now, you need the right attitude as a blade. Your goal, is to not be the Anti-Social-CW-Blade. What that means, you will find out when you pass level 100. I'll give you a quick summary. Anti-Social-CW-Blades are blades that don't talk to anyone, and spend their whole time on flyff CWing (ClockWorks is a level 80 boss in the game that can be fought once every 2 days, and it drops a series of valuable equipment) and not leveling. These blades tend to be richer than most, but you don't wanna be one of them. Sure you can CW when you hit the right level, but you need friends. Let me tell you, it's hard to get your level 95 weapon when you don't know people. As a blade you need alot of equipment and the more social you are, the easier it will be to get, generally. Stay social! It really DOES make a difference!
Builds & Commentary For Types of Blades, AoE, 1v1, PvP, and CW
Just want to clarify, never base your equips around your build. Always base your builds around your equips. This allows you to have more possiblities for awakens, which allows you to save money. There is no "set" build, because awakens take a huge role in determining your final statistics. If i say you want 70 sta 30 str rest dex, for example, you dont necesarily have to have those exact numbers. Awakens will affect the numbers, but AFTER awakens you want to be relativley close. For 1v1 blades, always cap off dex at an interval of 10. You'll get the crit rate. As for speed breaks, alot of people make a huge deal out of speed breaks, but honestly it doesnt matter that much. After level 90, attack speed will be useless because most RM's you train with will have GT, which gives 25% attack speed and 150 Attack Power. Dont kill yourself if you add something wrong when you level up, or miss a speedbreak. I knew a HERO Blade that had 26 int in his build, and still manages to MVP regularly.. although that was in v12 and 13.
AoE
Aoe Damage is based off dex. Aoeing as a blade is recommended after level 95. Aoeing before this level isn't efficient unless you have alot of equips with dex awakens. The main reason for this is that at 95, you get the v7 set which gives 15 block rate. Plus, you get to use LGA which gives your aoe a significan amount of damage. Also, and level 95, you will have enough dex to have almost max block rate, which I beleive is around 96% (Not very clear on max block rate, if someone can correct me on this, that'd be great). AoE Blades are one of the best AoE classes in the game. Back when I joined flyff, there was alot of debate on this matter, and most people doubted Blades' aoe ability. People didn't like AoE blades becasue they thought blades were only good at 1v1. This is 110% incorrect. You'll find it that a well equipped AoE Blade can level at the same speed or faster than an average 1v1 blade. AoE Blades now, are more common. Their aoe isnt radial damage, but is still efficient. It's called Sonic Blade and it hits every mob infront of you, not around you, and you must have something targeted /sad. It's a pain to reclick the mobs after you kill just one.. Sonic Blade: This skill is about as powerful as psykeeper's aoe skill. Aoe blades, unlike other classes, rely on high amounts of Dexterity to aoe. Blades have the highest block rate per dex in the game, so they can use this to their advantage to do well. Now, in PvP, AoE blades arent very good. Their 1v1 damage is incredibly low, and their hp is low also. The only advantage of pumping dex into a blades build is for blocking other blades and 1v1 classes, and for Guild Siege to increase hit rate and cut through BillPoster's block rate. Aoe Blades can deal so much damage because dex helps damage and tanking; you're killing two birds with one stone. Aoeing is best at level 95+ in Azria
Full Dex: This AoE Build is common, but isnt recommended for people that dont have alot of money. Full dex is good, but you still need some hp to tank, and this HP will have to come from awakens and a good pet, which does cost money. The goal here is to have about 15k hp. 15k Hp with max block rate will be perfect for aoeing. As full dex, you want to use one LGA in your mainhand, and an Haxe in your offhand. Offhand doesnt affect skill damage, so it's best to put an Haxe or AT LEAST an Angel Sword in it. Use these for the HP bonus! You want to use Arek Rings for damage and block rate, and Demol rings for Damage. DO NOT USE SPEEDOS. THEY WILL NOT HELP YOU. Speedos are useless for aoe blades, as you already have max block rate without them. You can use a Gore +6 Necklace or a Peison Necklace +20. I STRONGLY recommend the Peison +20 if you're full dex, because you want alot of FP. As full dex, you want stamina awakens. Strength awakens will not really help. As for a pet, I strongly recommend a high statted lion, preferably 40+ Stamina. Unicorns do help too, infact they give you more hp, but a lion would be a tiny bit better in this case because it adds to your recharge rate for FP and HP. You want to use the v7 lv 105 set. At 95 you can use this by reducing it. I don't recommending reducing sets, but it's your money!
Approx. 70 Sta, Rest Dex: Again I recommend AoEing after level 95. This build requires the same equips as the Full Dex build, but you want Dex awakens this time. If you have dex awakens on your lv 105 v7 set, choose this build Remember, base your build off your equips, to make the most out of it. Pets: I recommend a Unicorn with Dex Awakens, or a Rabbit with Attack/Dex. You want 4k+ HP on the unicorn, or if you choose rabbit, try and get 40+ dex.
NEVER GO FULL STA AOE BLADE. I knew a blade that did this and he failed. DON'T DO IT. Your AoE damage is based on your dex, and your tanking ability is also based on Dex. You only add Stamina, approx 70 after equips so that you can tank a bit better if you wanna be safe.
Once you get good as an Aoe Blade, you'll be able to pull 40k aoes (Note: This requires insane amounts of gpotting or gianting), and the leveling gets insanley fast. You'll be getting more exp per hour than a fully Amped 1v1 blade. The average aoe blade hits about 15-20k aoes, but I strongly recommend that you try and hit 30k+ aoes for efficiency. Dont spend too much money on and AoE blade though. They are shit for pvp /ridi
1v1
1v1 Blades are the most common type of blade to make. They are fast, efficient, and extremley boring. Don't put this aside becuase of what I said though. I tried aoe at 110 and did it till 115, then I was 1v1 from 115 to 121 HERO, 99.99%. 1v1 Was more efficient for me, because 1v1 equips are also good for pvp, and I had better 1v1 equips. 1v1 blades are the most powerful class in the game, bascially because of their Level 95 weapons, LGAs (Legendary Golden Axes). These wepaons add 20% crit rate, and 40% ADOCH. At level 95, your goal as an average blade is to get 75%+ crit rate. Richer blades, that can gpot and giant more, I expect to get 90% or more. I myself had 92%, which is alright, but 96% is the best.
Full Str: This is the best build for 1v1 blades after level 95. Full str is pretty straightforward. As a 1v1 blade, you'll kill so fast that you dont really need HP, and the hp you have atm is good enough. This build will allow you to do the most damage. Now, PLEASE DO NOT CONFUSE THIS WITH EQUIPS! You do NOT want "Full Str" Equips. By this I mean, pierce your LGAs with Electric B cards, NOT fire B cards. I see 1v1 grinding blades that are GOLD M, that still use Fire B Cards with 65% crit rate, and it makes me sad. Electric B is the MOST efficient and allows for the most damage per second. Although this does depend on your crit rate. Use electric B cards if your crit rate is under 96. :D So.. in other words.. everyone should use 'em! With electric B cards, most blades with decent awakens should be able to pass 80 crit rate easily. As for awakens on weapons, ADOCH and Crit are the most desirable. However, high amounts of Dex and Str aren't bad. Stamina is pretty useless, unless you're PvP, but keep high amounts of Stamina if you get it. Attack is also great. With your set, you want to use the level 90 set, Dest/Dayst. This set is good because of the 15% Crit rate it gives you. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU OINLY USE 3/4 PIECES. I recommend using the Helmet, Suit, and Boots. Use vagrant guantlets with high Crit rate awakens in place of this. Replace the 4th piece with whatever helps you the most though. For girl characters, you can also use Shaentra Guanlets for more hit rate, which was popular up to v10, but dont really reommend this, because you can easily get max hit rate with awakens and Electric B's and all of the other goodies that Gala has added to the game over the months. Use Vigor Rings, or Arek rings, whichever you have that's higher +. Use demols, and a gore necklace. Go for crit rate or ADOCH on your CS blessings.
CW
For Clockworks, theres no difference than a 1v1 build except HP. All you want is approx. 8k HP or more. I'd say Full str with a good unicorn will get the job done. You can CW probably at lv 95+ Although it's been done with Angel Axes. Currently, I could probably kill it in about 6 minutes with an RM, but as a beginner you'll need to take at least 25-30 minutes, if not the whole hour. You must kill it in 1 hour, and you must be in a Guild that has never done it before. What people do to CW is they make a guild, CW, disband the guild, wait two days, make a new guild, cw, Etc. There used to be builds for CW, like 40 sta, Rest Str, but because of the awakening system and piercings, and pets, you can just do it at full str. Add 40 sta to your build if you're feeling a bit nervous or want to play it safe. When you CW you want a high level rm with max heal rain. The best way to CW after you spend a shit-load of gpots is to make your LGA Ultimate +7 and Jewel slot it with 2 emeralds to get Blood-Sucking. This can even be done with a +6 axe, just use one emerald, it's all good. Get buffed, go in, and kill it before the buffs run out. Your damage will be so high, you dont need an RM to heal you, but your own damage will heal you. Great way to cw, that is.
PvP
It's hard to give a specifc PvP Build for ANY class, because all the servers have different expectations and different people, and different advancements. With pvp, it's not really a build you;re looking for, but a RATIO. This ratio is how you make your equips and your build to coexist.
Arena: In the arena, as a blade, you primarily want Str and Stamina. Now, theres a little knot. You want to b e able to kill everyone, right? You will want the following equips: level 120 Nox set, level 105 v7 Set with block, 2 LGA's or an LGA and a Bsword, Arek rings, Stamina Rings, Vigor rings, Demols, Speedos, 2 Haxes, 2 CS sets, and at least 2 different pets. You look at this, and cringe. It's alot of money, if you wanna be the best in the arena. The nox set is for fighting BPs and other classes, and the v7 set if for fighting other blades. (obvious reasons). The LGA's are obviously for damage. It's best to Ult +9 one of them, and Ult +6 the other. In the ult +6 put blood sucking emerald, anbd in the +9 ult Lga, put 24% pvp damage, diamond. If you dont have two lgas, and bought a bsword at 110, just Ult +0 or 3 the bswoord for extra offhand damage, and 24% pvp the LGA. The different typoes of rings are for different situations. Areks for fighting blades and Bps, Vigors for dealing higher damage, and Stmiana rings for tanking, Speedos for blocking blades, and demols for damage. You want 2 haxes for tanking also. Most blades fighting Bps tank with haxes on, then switch to LGA's to kill during cooldown of asal. The 2 CS sets arent really required but help a bit for switching modes. You want a tiger with a crit or an ADOCH awaken, preferably 50+ str on the tiger. You want a unicorn with preferably 5k+ hp and a crit/adoch awaken.
In the end, as a pvp arena blade, you wanna be able to get high HP and high damage by changing your equips. It's hard to get huge ratios all in one setup. You also want to make sure you can get 100% atk speed or very close without GT. YUou want 96 Crit rate, and high ADOCH. Getting all of the stuff mentioned above, including the +10 sets and +9 Ult Axes, sometimes takes more then 5k USD. I've spend about 3.5k USD and I dont have an AXE that high. My current ratio is about 40/40, which for my server is good. Again, I dont know what kind of HP you needd, because new servers have different expectations. I'm assuming a b lade in this new server will be able to do good in siege with 30/20 ratio. (30k hp/20k crits). For the arena, you want to be able to get max block without having dex in your build. some add dex, but agian it fluctuates ALOT, there are hundreds of builds for PvP Blades that are customized to the user's best advantage, and giving you an exact build would be impossible.
Siege: You want 144 dex in order to get passed BP block, and you want high HP and probably around 20k+ damage in siege. You want eonugh HP to tank Hop; dont even try and tank asal unless you can switch gear efficiently. Most of the stuff is mentioned in the Arena section. If you're really good you can get a godly ratio with just one setup.
Grinding: With and Without Gpotatos
Without Gpotatos
1-25: At Level one, the best way for you to get start is to just grind. Quests are very useless in this game, except for a few when you hit level 60-M, so dont even bother with them, just yet. Grind in Flaris, and keep moving down the monsters until you hit level 15. Once you're level 15, you can choose to be a mercenary, which is a required class to be a blade. This isnt a job quest guide, so once you've become a mercenary, continue grinding, generally on monsters that are 1-2 levels higher than you. Use buff pang buffs, and RM buffs whenever you can. Always get an efficient partner. Don't ever partner with someone the same level as you that isnt doing any work. Please DO NOT BE MISTAKEN: It is ok to grind with a leecher or an assist; you get more exp when you let someone leech you. It makes no sense, but it works that way. Only grind with someone your level if he is fighting too. Some tactics: go to ever one, and join any Advanced party that has a full shout, because full advanced parties allow u to get more exp per kill, then go to server 2 or 3 and grind there, where there's less people! Make alot of friends so you can get partners and Plvls any time you want. Plvling is most effective for both people if the leech is 19 levels lower. Find a plvler 14 or more levels higher than you for efficiency, and have 'em grind and you'll get free exp. Fight at bangs until you hit level 19, then go to the Mas Mine and fight in there until you're level 25.
26-43: By this time, you'll have enough money for a ignice board. Hopefully, you've gotten low level equips or drops. Fight in Saint Morning until you hit level 43. It's best to let an Assist leech you, and heal you. Dont let your leech be too high level. It's better if they're closer to 19 below; youll get more exp, and so will they. Try and partner with a twink if you can. But don't expect them to stay if you cant meet up with their kill speed. Before you hit level 43, there are a few quests you should do. At level 30, immediatley do the Red Bang Quest. This quest will give you an entanale sword, a powerful sword used by MANY low level mercs. At level 43, You move to garden of rhisis.
43-48: Fight at the garden of rhisis, until you hit level 45. If you can, try and buy a Silver Sword. There are good monster guides out there, use them. At level 45, visit the Mayor of Saint Morning. She will give you a godly quest, and do all of the parts, except the last party part. This quest will easily get you to level 48.
48-60: Go fight in Darkon 1,2. Start with Leyenas and make your way up. Once you reach Steamwalkers, go to SM and take the Lost Script quest. Grind until you hit 60. Plvling starts to be really popular among players after level 40. Plvling is how most people get to 60, Thanks to the high level players! Do the blade quest. If you choose the knight quest, stop reading this guide. Or, remake your character and use the money from this failed character to support the blade. Take the quest in Darkon. And then just do what it says. Pretty easy tbh.
60-80: Try and get 2 Dretra Swords. Now, this is the part that gets difficult. How do you get Dretras, which can rnage from 15m to 60m. That's 30m to 120m, how can you do it? Well, take advantage of ANY events; collect event items and sell them, and farm boxes. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW PRICES WELL! DONT GET SCAMMED! You need as much money as you can get at this level. It's really hard to get alot of money BEFORE level 60, considering gianting is useless. Don't NPC any items if you're having trouble getting money. Sell them all in Saint Morning in a private shop, or in Darkon. Once you get your dretras, all you need are CW rings, which are USUALLY 10-15m each. You need 2 Vigor +9 rings, and 2 Demol +12 rings. These can be a pain to get also. Once you hit 60 though, you can start gianting and there are ALOT of level 60 bosses. You have a high chance to get some pretty good items. Sometimes, all it takes is gone giant, and you'll be set till level 80. All you need is one guardian drop, preferrably bow or knuckle. Try and save the money, because you'll also want a +3 Rescorn set. This set gives attack speed, and HP. Great for gianting. It's a fairly cheap set, probably 10-15m, if not, less, for the whole thing. You don't gpot, don't bother peircing and going past +3. If you manage to get enough money, fight in Azria, otherwise, Fight cranes, then sylicas, then mongs, then mushpoies. Make sure you get your weapon to have an electric element. After you hit level 80, go to pinkies. Oh yeah, i forgot to mention: TAKE ALL OF THE QUESTS FROM THE QUEST LADY IN DARKON AFTER LEVEL 60; KEEP TAKING THEM UNTIL YOU HIT 120!!
80-89: No matter what people say, Pinkies is way better than Azria. They have less HP, less defense, and MORE exp than level 91 Azria mobs. FIGHT HERE. It's epic exp, if you have the right partner. Dont ever team up with more than one other person. Best exp is with 2 people, so only have 1 partner. Be in an adv party on contri. (This will all make sense once you're this level!).
89-115: After pinkies, I HOPE you have enough money to continue on in Azria. Azria isnt expensive, and by level 80, you should have the money.. Ways to get money is by Tanking, Pleveling, Gianting, and Merchanting. Take advantage of events. This is a big step, 89-115, but it's pretty much the same. At level 95, though, you get your level 105-10reduced LGAs. These will cost ALOT of money, and I mean ALOT. Again, save the money, and get more; know prices, don't get scammed. You could stick with Rescorn set, but thats really stupid. Get the dest/dayst set at level 90, for more crit rate. At 110, players may choose to get a bloody sword. People say that 2x LGA is better, but I 1 hit the mobs either way, so tbh both are good. You want the bsword only if you lack atkspeed. 2x LGA is better for pvp because you can Ult both of them, and if you have the money to ult, you sure as hell better have the money to hit max atk speed. Anyways...
115-120.9999: It's gonna be pretty hard to make it to 115 without gpotting, but if you do it right, there are people that have become pretty good without gpotting. If you manage to make it to 120, take the Master quest. Youll be back at level 60, but youll be master. As a master youll gain more stats per level, and youll be higher up in the crowd (usually). If you don't wanna look like a fool, I highly recommend gpotting ot MASSIVE gianting beofre you hit master. You wanna have good equips.. thats obvious though Dx.
60M-approx. 85M: Remember all of those quest you took? Get the questies, and turn them in. And BOOM, you hit 85 or so. Alot of people before they turn their quests in, make an assist to level 41, then plvl it with their lv 60M blade. It'll get you to about level 64, and your RM will be lv 60. Then do the RM quest on the rm, then turn in the quests until you hit level 79. At 79-M plvl the rm to about 65, then turn in the rests of the quests. Having your own partner as a blade (that partner being yourself) is VERY convenient and it's how I did it, and it helped alot.
85M-115M: Fight in Azria. You should know this by now.. Most blades say it gets hard after 90M, but if you have alot of good equips, and gpot alot, leveling as a master is a joke until about level 107-M. And even then, up until 115M isnt bad at all. As a Master, you 1-2 hit ALOT of mobs. The 1 hitting becomes less frequent as you move higher up. Most blades can't one hit a Captain Asruas, and It only happens with me about 5 times an hour, its not common at all.
115M-118M: fight at NORMAL Asruas. Grinding gets REALLY slow when you make it to the Tower.
119M-121HERO with 99.99%: Captain Asruas. When you're a godly equipped HERO Blade aiming for 99.99%, you only get about 5-6% per hour. Fail HERO Blades (sorry, but if you're HERO and have mediocre gear, I don't know what you've been up to this whole time..) get around 2-3% per hour.
Tbh, if you can make it to level 100, this grinding section is unneeded, as most people know it from there.
Grinding WITH Gpotatos from level 1
This is my preferred way to play the game. Gpotatos really help you out. At level 1, i recommend buying 50$ worth of gpotatoes. Before you spend any of it, make sure you learn the prices and the functions of the gpots. Never buy gpots when you honestly dont know 95% of the gpotato system. Be expericned before you do this. I don't recommennd gpottinng before level 80 on your first character ever, but if you learn it all beforehand, it's a great tool. 50$ of gpots will easily get you UP TO level 95, not including 95 equips or level 90 set. With 50 gpots, I recommend that you get the basic CW rings, and spend 200m awakening vagrant gear. This vagrant gear will last you till level 90, when you need to get your dest. As a blade I suggest you aim for 25+ stat helm, 15+ ADOCH suit, 8+ Crit guantlets, and 15+ Adoch boots. Blades that use vagrant sets in place of dest will want 30+/20+/10+/20+. Unless their set is godly, most blades use a Nox set at 120. VERY FEW blades can siege with a vagrant set, but I have a few in mind that can.
1-60: As a Twink, Stay in Mas Mine after you hit level 15. Fight things 4-5 levels higher. 1-25 will be a joke. Go to SM until 48, doing the ivillis quest. After that Ivillis quest, do the Script quest. Youll reach 60 in no time, just get plvls. Do the level 60 quest, and equip your Dretras.
60-90: Get Azria and a Full shout, and a Red Scroll. Get a EXP Leveling Scroll and a Stack scroll. Grind from 60 to 80 in a few days, and then go to pinkies. Remember, pinkies are best for exp unless you're Master. At Master, killing pinkies wasnt efficient because they die too fast, and dont respawn fast enough. Theoretically, sinse pinkies give more exp, you should fight them until 90.. But it's your choice. Also, start taking quests.
90-115: Azria, get lgas, and a dest at 95. Kick some ass.
115-120: Again, just grind in Tower. Use amps now, with upcuts.
60M-Hero: See grinding without Gpots guide. Only difference is that you wont fail, and you'll be 1 hitting mobs.
Skills: Which ones to max, which ones to ignore
Flyff isnt a highly skill based game. There are a few highly used skills, but it doesnt offer much variety as to which skills you have the option to use. Most classes stick to a few skills, or melee. In this game, some skills are much better than others. Do not max the wrong ones.
Priority:
Sneaker: This skill should be maxed. It's great for gianting, and Pvp.
Empower Weapon: MAX THIS SKILL. NO MATTER WHAT!
Sword Mastery: Max is as soon as possible, this gives you damage.
Blazing Sword: This skill should be maxed too. It's a good self buff.
Hawk Attack: Max this for blinding giants.
Berserk: Good self buff, used throughout grinding whenever you can.
Sonic Blade: This is the aoe you want to use, max it if you aoe, dont bother maxing it if you dont aoe.
PvP Skills, should be maxed at a later level
The following skills are for pvp. Dont max pvp skills if you're not level 95 or higher. In the arena, most people cant do much at level 80. Max the following skills IN ADDITION TO THE SKILLS MENTIONED ABOVE.
Slash: This is your secret weapon against other blades, rangers, and bow jesters.
Keenwheel: This is your secret weapon against other blades, rangers, and bow jesters. Your skill bar should have slash in the front, followed by keenwheels. Dont bother with blindside.
Guillotine: Comes in handy when sneakered/sataned. Great skill, with range. Also useful for gianting.
Pan Barrier: From this point onwards, always keep a shield in your inventroy. This is how you kill bowjesters. 40% Ranged block, Gotta love it :)
Axe Mastery/Smite Axe: Max this once you get your LGAs. Alwyas keep an lga in main hand.
Check out the flyff wiki for more info on weapons and armor. Also, i highly recommend downloading Jon and Herki's character simulator. It can be found on the official forums. It's a great way to evaluate your character, and make a build.
That's All, for now!
